What long-term care insurance pays for at home
Six possible benefits, a free choice of care network and a role for the relative who helps.
Six benefits
- Help and care from a home-care network: essential activities of life, support for independence and help to keep living at home.
- A cash benefit for the person who helps (10 weekly flat rates, depending on the help given).
- A flat rate for incontinence supplies.
- Technical aids such as a wheelchair, a medical bed or a walking frame.
- Adaptations to the home.
- Pension contributions for a helper who has no pension of their own.
You choose the network
If a network comes to the home, you are free to choose which one. The AEC case officer splits the help between the network and the family helper. If the helper can no longer help, a network of your choice can take over.
Who can be a helper?
A relative (partner, child), a neighbour or someone employed and registered with the Centre commun de la sécurité sociale, who helps at least once a week. The AEC case officer decides whether the person is recognised as a helper.
Good to know
- For technical aids, the AEC has a helpline: helpline.at.lo@ad.etat.lu.
- A benefit of the same kind from health insurance cannot be received at the same time.
- Luxembourg has 20 home-care networks with 77 local offices: compare them on Fleeg.
