Applying for long-term care insurance: step by step

Who is entitled, which documents to send, how the assessment works and what to do if you disagree.

Who is entitled?

Anyone insured with the CNS and their co-insured family members, whatever their income. Two conditions must be met:

Cross-border workers insured in Luxembourg receive the cash benefits from Luxembourg; care in kind depends on the health fund of their country of residence.

The application in 3 steps

  1. Fill in the form "Demande de prestations de l’assurance dépendance" (in French or German, on guichet.lu).
  2. Ask your GP to fill in the R20 medical report. It is free for you.
  3. Post both documents to: Caisse nationale de santé – Assurance dépendance, B.P. 1023, L-1010 Luxembourg. The application is only complete once the CNS has received both.

The assessment

A health professional from the AEC (Administration d’évaluation et de contrôle) meets you: at home, at their offices or at the care home. They look at what the person can still do alone and ask questions, if needed also of a relative. A case officer then follows the file.

The decision

The CNS decides based on the AEC’s opinion and sends the decision to the person and the care provider. If the need is recognised, benefits are due at the earliest from the day the complete application arrived, so send it as soon as possible.

Disagree?

Contact: CNS – Assurance dépendance, tel. 27 57 44 55 (working days, 8.00 – 16.30), assurancedependance@secu.lu.
